The sacrament of Confirmation is a significant rite of passage where we, as a community of faith, recognize God’s gift of the Holy Spirit is imparted to our youth as they reach adolescence. Just as we see Jesus in the temple begin his faith journey as a young man, so today we support our youth as they walk with God on their own journey of faith.
Many people often consider this sacrament to be a specifically “Catholic” tradition. In fact, Confirmation has its origins in the Jewish tradition and has been practiced long before there was a Christian church.
Confirmation is the equivalent of the Jewish Bar (or Bat) Mitzvah, where the young adult comes before the church to “confirm” their spiritual knowledge as they embark on a faith journey of their own. This involves the study of God’s word, developing a life of prayer and acts of service for the good of the greater community.
At Grace, we support our youth as they are confirmed in their knowledge and service of God and in their desire to walk in His ways. We, the members of Grace Church, partner with our youth through prayer and encouragement, setting an example to assist the next generation on their journey.
